Cyber Safety

CTAP Region 4 has done an excellent Cyber safety study which includes Identity safety, predators, bullying, and other things outlined on the poster http://www.ctap4.org/cybersafety/

MySpace safety has very good information for teachers, parents, and users of MySpace.

A school’s responsibility for student safety is governed by state laws. Schools must have filters to protect students from inappropriate content, for example. Most schools in this area also have Internet use agreements signed by staff and ones for students and their parents. Many also have board policies that go beyond state law requirements.

Responsibility

Responsibility must be taught, but if we rely on the media to teach it, it won’t happen. It also won’t happen if we do not set a good example.

Plagiarism - the use of another person’s words or ideas without permission with the intention of passing them off as one’s own work or ideas.

Copyright - the legal right to make copies, to license, to advertise, and to otherwise use a work of literature, music, or art, whether printed, audio, video, etc.

See www.georgepilling.com/copyright for links to Copyright and Plagiarism resources.
